The following editorial was published in the Redcliffe Herald on January 18th 2017:
SUBURBS, like people, need aspirations. They need collective hopes and dreams.
Deception Bay has rightly been identified as a “hidden gem”, an area ripe for upgrades and expansion.
It ticks so many boxes – waterfront location, good access to roads and rail, and plenty of land and ambition.
The latter is vital and we should salute the efforts of Moreton Bay Chamber of Commerce for that.
A similar wishlist was unveiled for Kallangur, just before Christmas, sparking debate and plenty of opinion.
A library and community centre were top “wishes”, which is where Deception Bay differs.
The progress association’s list is longer and aimed at more infrastructure needs –a lagoon, medical hub, reopening the bowls club, having a functioning convention centre.
Time will tell if these become reality, but one quick fix would be to harness the support of MBRIT to launch a specific event at Deception Bay.
It’s a blank canvas. What kind of event could be launched for Deception Bay? When should it be held? Where should it be staged?
